Circular walk at the Castello di Montecchio (8.5 km, 250m):
It is the castle straight from medieval stories, the one that many people imagine when they think of a hilltop fortress with a very tall tower (30m!), dominating the surrounding area. Its name is associated with that of the famous English soldier and mercenary leader, John Hawkwood (known in Italian as Giovanni Acuto). The castle is the main focus of our excursion, straddling the small Val di Chio and the wide open space of the Val di Chiana.

Monte Lignano and the Pieve di Sant’Eugenia, Bagnoro (6km, 350m):
Monte Lignano (837m) is the highest mountain in Arezzo, and the most beautiful point from which to view the city and its Tuscan surroundings: the foothills of the Casentino, the Valdarno valley, the ridges of Chianti, Val di Chiana, right down to Lago Trasimeno and the Apennines, the Umbrian hills that encircle it to the east. Our excursion will take place mainly in the woods, full of the strawberry trees whose delicate, red fruits provide autumn colour. After the walk, we will return to Arezzo by car, stopping on the way to visit the fascinating and original Romanesque church of Sant’Eugenia at Bagnoro.

AFTERNOON: Free
*SATURDAY:
ONE DAY OUTING:
Circular walk Oliveto – Civitella in Val di Chiana (12.5km, 300m)
Woods, olive groves and vineyards alternate with views of the Val di Chiana along this route that links two villages, both very pretty in different ways: Oliveto with its elegant stone houses modestly situated within the city walls, and Civitella which proudly overlooks Val di Chiana, secure and strong beneath the walls of the picturesque, ancient castle.

An exhilarating and pleasant walk along the foothills of the Casentino forest towards distant, high ridges, and the places made famous by the presence of St Francis of Assisi, such as the Sanctuary of La Verna and the Hermitage of Casella. On the way back we will head downhill, passing a secret castle hidden in the trees. Originally the seat of the ancient Ubertini family, it was transformed into an elegant residence in the 16th century.

This superb Romanesque church, carved in stone and rich in art, is one of the gems to be found in this corner of Tuscany. This will be a more ‘urban’ excursion in feel, but none the less rich in historical and scenic interest. We will start at the village of Loro Ciuffenna and head up to the Pieve, then return to the village by another route. We will glimpse the deep gorge, and take in the Romanesque bridge and labyrinthine alleys of the lower Fondaccio district.

If you are looking for a small school that takes individual care of you, in a small, relaxed city: this is it!
We are only two at our class and the teacher did care for our individual needs by choosing the necessary exercises! The school is located right in the heart of the city with lots of cafes and restaurants around.
Arezzo is an historic city with lots to see and do or just sit in the park (Il Prato) and read. And all of it at a fair price!
